Why Web Marketing is Gaining Attention by the Government

Sunday, February 5th, 2012

Every level of government, in order to make themselves more accessible to the public, are going on the Internet. But having a website isn’t enough anymore, nor is it interactive enough for many visitors. So governments are offering up new online features in order to keep up with the popularity of social media and other web marketing tactics. In fact, many websites are linked to Facebook and Twitter. Others are being revamped by a social media agency that comprehends how to best attract visitors.

However, there are some problems with e-government pages. There are the obvious ones, like website design and how social media will be used by the government. But there’s also the matter that many people in government are ignorant to social media strategies. When they hear the word “Re-tweet”, they usually have no idea what you are talking about. However, all of the problems can be easily solved by using the expertise of a social media agency.

And every social media agency worth its salt is starting to take advantage of this growing clamor for social media. In fact, many are popping up that are strictly for cultivating social media for government use. One such example is Digital Gov Group, in Reno, Nevada, that helps city, county, and state level governments establish proper social media use and policy. The big appeal for using a social media agency like this one is they can help set up communications channels, which are especially important in times of crisis (such as natural disasters).

However, there are those states that have chosen to avoid using a social media agency whenever possible. Utah is one example. According to Utah CIO Steve Fletcher, if social media policies are made in-house, than those who helped to make and then abide by them will understand them better. Also, with Facebook and Twitter accounts being free, they just don’t see the point of spending the money on a social media agency. The argument I make is that, although these sites are free, updating an account can become time consuming. For governments who wish to spend time on other things than having employees flounder in social media, using a social media agency is a great way to train staff until they have the skills to use the pages.

Overall, social media is a great tool to use. Governments are starting to see this, and are on their way to implementing social media to reach out to the public. However, for those that don’t have the resources or the people to meet the demand for this level of interaction, hiring a social media agency can be a great start or a useful way to have others handle the social media while you use your staff to handle other official matters.

Wizarding Online Reputation Management: Why Voldemort needs an Online Reputation Adjustment

Saturday, February 4th, 2012

I’m curious to know if there is a demand for online reputation management in Harry Potter’s world. Would a wizard need an online reputation? Does the wizarding world of Harry Potter have the access to use a computer? Is the internet in existence? With the profusion of magic and the small community of the wizard world, I don’t think so. I do believe that an online reputation is important even if you are the One Who Shall Not Be Named. He must hire a social media agency, also not to be named.

The internet is just shy of a magic trick anyway if you ask me so why not have an internet? If Voldemort had the internet, he could easily have helped his online reputation with the assistance of an online reputation management consultant. Perhaps he could use the online reputation of Harry Potter as a guide and then not be so disgruntled.

Why Voldemort does not have an online reputation management adviser is beyond me. You are responsible for the destruction of the wizarding world and you want everyone to be compliant to you. The best tactic for this plan is to incorporate the use of social media and promote your new online reputation so that everyone sees you for what you want them to see.

Everyone believes what they see on the internet. Audiences of the internet have an incredible amount of faith in those who manage the information on the interment so why not manipulate your online reputation and fool them all?

Online reputation management is crucial for many reasons. The most important is to get people to like you. If you are an evil magician with a nasty look, people are going to be afraid of you. The best method I think to get people to bend to your will is to apply an online reputation that people will get to know and judge you upon. The more people that you can persuade with your online reputation that you are a “good” guy, the more likely you are to not fall victim.

How Can A Drug Testing Program Save Your Company Money: Creating A Safer Workplace

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

Because of the millions of people who use illegal drugs it has become necessary for companies to test for them. But how can a drug testing program save your company money? There are a lot of ways. Below are some reasons that businesses should think about these tests as a way to decrease spending.

There are many people who believe that drug testing is a violation of civil liberties and should not be forced on anyone. However, people who are under the influence can present a danger to themselves or others, might not be as productive, and can bring a negative influence to a group of people. Because of this companies are increasingly looking for new ways to hold people accountable.

By having regular tests for illegal substances businesses can reduce their costs. Many people who use illegal substances end up sick and are more likely to need to make claims on health insurance which can drive up the premiums for the business. In addition, these people are more likely to make compensation claims after being injured at work. These things can drastically increase costs.

Reducing risk is another advantage to these types of tests. People who are under the influence at work are far more likely to create accidents, show up late, or miss work entirely. They are also more likely to do things that might reflect negative on the business. These problems can all be reduced with regular tests that ensure employees are not drunk or high while working.

A mobile test is the best way to make sure companies do not waste resources by doing tests for illegal substances. A mobile service can go to where people live which reduces the amount of time people have to miss work or travel to take a test. Money will not be saved if the employees have to miss a lot of time driving back and forth to different facilities.

Many tests can be cheated easily and should be avoided. There is no point in doing these types of tests if they can be beat. Test kits that people can take home have proven to be an ineffective way to get honest results. For this reason it is best that the business do plenty of research before choosing a service to ensure that they are making the most of their investment.

Just the knowledge that a test may be coming is usually enough to keep people from acting irresponsibly. When employees realize that the business they work for is diligent in their efforts at keeping illegal substances out of the workplace they will be less likely to take the risk. Savings can be reaped just by the threat of testing.

So when confronted with the question how can a drug testing program save your company money, there are a number of answers. Safety and health concerns are reduced, as is the time employees miss or come in late. The business can save a lot of money with test while reducing the chance for accidents or damage to their reputation.

Connecticut drug testing could make the company safer – mobile drug testing should also be at the top of that list if you own a company.

Getting All Reasons For Drug Testing In Your Louisiana Company

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

There are many reasons for drug testing in your Louisiana company and all employees should be aware of why it is done. Most are common sense things that require a drug-free work environment, and others are state law. Here is some information about this process and the reasoning behind why it is done.

Most states allow places of employment to test their employees for mind altering substances both before they are hired and during the length of their employment. Companies do it for several reasons which are all valid. Some types of employment might be more susceptible to this type of scrutiny, such as transportation positions or anyone who is working with heavy machinery.

To determine what kinds of policies each workplace has, you can ask a number of questions. Some policies, such as violation instances and who exactly will be tested are available in employee handbooks upon employment. Other places will supply information on an as needed basis but all of the information should be readily available when asked for.

An employer has to make sure that the test programs are fair and are not violating any of the employee rights when they take the tests. They must let the employee know what the risks are regarding their noncompliance to the rules surrounding drugs in the workplace, whether they are using them themselves or they are bringing them into the building. Additionally, an employer must be clear as to what kind of help the employee may be able to get if needed.

An employee could face being fired for refusing to take a test when they are required to. It needs to be crystal clear in the information that the employee is given regarding such tests in order for this to happen. Otherwise, the employee can take action against their workplace if they have been terminated because they refused to take the test.

While an employee cannot be strong handedly forced into taking these tests, it is important for the employer to remind them what will happen if they do not take the test as required. If they are forced into doing it, many of their rights are being violated and criminal charges can be laid. When an employee is fired for refusal, it will be after the employer has been crystal clear with them regarding the consequences.

Polices should be clear and concise, without any room for doubt. This is so there cannot be any confusion anywhere down the line if there should be a dispute about a confusing part of a policy. Also interesting to note is the fact that the only times employers test for drugs is during the final hiring stage, or for those who need to have it on a regular time schedule.

It only takes a little bit of common sense when faced with drug testing in your Louisiana company. These tests are to not only protect you and those who work with you, but your employer as well. It is very important that the employees that work there fully and completely understand what all the polices for drugs in the workplace are so there is no confusion, especially if the employee is being fired for inappropriate behavior.

Louisianna drug testing is going to help get rid of the drugs from the workplace, which will make it a safer environment. Drug testing teens is also a great option.

Social Media Management: What You Need to Know for Online Marketing

Friday, January 20th, 2012

Social media management is now an important component of any online marketing strategy. However, not every business understands the best way to go about it. This is to be expected: the medium is still very new, so here’s a small introduction on what you should do when working with your social media. Social media management is not terribly hard, but it is something that you would have to take time to master.

Your first step is to choose what the business you are trying to promote is really all about: do you understand their core values? Marketing with social media needs a wonderful direction, so you need to understand precisely what you are trying to convey with every post. Is your company focused on customer service, or does it have it sights set on being innovative? Remember that you need to make a decision: if you want to be everything to everybody, you’ll end up being nothing to nobody.

Even if you’re not focusing on it in your communications plan, customer service is still critical. This is one particular benefit that social media has over other forms of marketing: it allows you to converse directly with your clients. If a customer has a complaint, work with them to fix it. If they ask you a question, you really must to give them answer. If they leave a comment of just how much they like you (we should all be so lucky), thank them. Then other clientele will see that you take their concerns seriously.

This leads us nicely into our next topic of conversation: make all your posts about the customers. People don’t want to just read about your products; they want to say things about how they use the product. It’s a good idea to organize contests, run surveys, or just ask them questions. In short, everything you do should cause your customers to feel like they are vital to you.

These are all rather basic, but this should give you a feeling of what social media management is all about. I wouldn’t so far as to say that marketing is brain surgery, but it’s obviously a pivot from old media like print. Because of this, you really should do whatever you are able to in order to find everything you can. Only this way can you be competitive.

Twitter For Business: Mistakes Businesses Should Avoid

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

Twitter for business is a free and dominant tool to make the public aware of your business and the products or services offered. Many small businesses use Twitter, but some use it in a way that is detrimental to their online reputation. By avoiding some general mistakes, a businesses’ Twitter account can do what it originally set out to do: use a Twitter PR approach to get information to the public and make them aware of why they are a great company to do business with.

The first huge mistake many businesses make is by over-tweeting. Although a Twitter account should be updated regularly to generate interest, too much information (especially information that is too often not closely related to the company) will turn followers off. Twitter is based on 140 character tweets, so by nature its goal is to get information succinctly out to a public who expects little reading. If there are too may tweets, followers will be overloaded with information and will not wish to follow the Twitter account and using Twitter for business will not be effective.

Pointing to other social media sites or other places too frequently is also a mistake and can be a pain to your followers. If you tweet repeatedly about what is happening on your Facebook page or website, your followers will believe that your Twitter account is a useless place to go to find information. Also, if followers go to accounts to read up about what is occurring on the Twitter page; chances are that they are social media savvy and read the Facebook page too. Usually, there is no need to point to both, unless a contest or some other event is going on. Twitter PR and Twitter for business means that you use them effectively for Twitter-not always for other social media sites to be linked to each other.

Not contributing in Twitter and the follower’s tweets is also a big mistake in the Twitter for business and Twitter PR marketing world. If a follower takes the time to answer to a tweet, ask a question, or start a conversation, ignoring the tweet is a guaranteed way to have followers shun a Twitter account. Participation is essential for not only current followers, but potential followers as well. Nothing is more aggravating to a follower than to have their voice fall on deaf ears.

Using Twitter for business and Twitter PR as a marketing tool efficiently means evading huge mistakes. Listening to your followers and what they want is key, but also following a few uncomplicated steps goes a long way to make certain that Twitter is used in a way that is the most valuable. The steps to avoid a slip-up seem like a no-brainer, but so much can be done with Twitter for business that even the simplest of intentions need to be supervised.

So, do you think you would like to find out more about how to use Twitter for business? Do you think you would like to find out more about Twitter PR? Check us out at fishbat.com to find out more!

What A Successful Entrepreneur Must Have

Saturday, January 14th, 2012

Studies show that there are certain characteristics that successful entrepreneurs have, and here they are.

Confidence In Oneself This is that magical power of having confidence in oneself and in one’s powers and abilities.

Achievement-Focused Know that results can only be gained by focused and sustained effort. They concentrate on achieving a specific goal, not just accomplishing a string of unrelated tasks.

Risk Taker They know that losing is a possibility, but they have the confidence to take calculated risks so they will achieve their goals.

Entrepreneurs make decisions, take action, and try to have some control over their lives. Usually, they are motivated by the idea of independence, which makes them believe that their success depends on hard work, not luck.

So which of these three main characteristics is the most important? It’s actually self-confidence. Without it, the others won’t matter. If you don’t believe in yourself, then you would easily give up if any challenge comes along. Here are a few things to keep in mind for maintaining a higher level of self-confidence.

Think Positively A positive attitude is a good start, isn’t it? Firstly, you have to believe that something good will happen to you. Negative thinking simply is not allowed. You must truly believe that there are no circumstances strong enough to deter you from reaching your goals. You should also know that positive thinking can be really contagious. Once positive thinking will spread, there will be a lot of new ideas, new customers, etc.

Persistent Action Now all of the positive thinking and believing in the world is useless if it is not applied towards a goal. You have to take action, no excuses are allowed. And this action has to be unrelenting. Giving up after one try is not enough. Do things one at a time. If you can’t get by something, then find another way to it.

At the beginning of this article we identified a few traits that are common among successful entrepreneurs. You should be able to look ahead and see yourself where you want to be. Now just maintain a strong belief in yourself and your skills, stick with it, and don’t give up. If you can do that, you’re already half way there!

Getting Rid Of Free Consultations And Increasing Your Income

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

Creative professionals often meet with clients for “free consultations” with the hopes of turning that consult into a paying client. This is actually contradictory to the behavior of great paying clients even though this thought process is common and may make sense on the surface.

By giving away the initial consultation for free, you are diminishing the value of your talents and your services, and in turn hurting your chances of closing a great deal. Potential customers who get the initial consultation for free are less likely to value what you do and will more likely balk at your fees.

A healthy amount for your initial consultation is what you should absolutely charge. Helping to eliminate bad clients or clients who are just price shopping or looking for free advice is this kind of approach. Also, in the mind of the prospect, the value of your creative services will increase as well. Any potential client who is “offended” by paying for the consultation was most likely never really a potential client in the first place. If you want to reduce the number of wasted consultations you present, then you would need to turn away these types of people.

If you are already charging for your consultation, you should re-examine the amount you charge. You should charge at least $100 for the consultation because if not, then you are probably going out on far more wasted meetings than you should. Tell the prospective buyer that you will put the consultation fee towards their project should they choose to hire you and you can increase your consultation fee. With this approach, resistance can be reduced to a higher amount. It also increases the quality of your potential client and your chances of closing the sale.

Try this approach out on the next person who calls to set up a consultation and keep in mind that a major part of effective marketing and sales is weeding out bad clients and wasted initial consultations. Stop giving away your consulting and this will help you increase your income, decrease your wasted time, and get better clients because this will change the value of your services in your mind and in the mind of your clients.
