How to Treat an Asthma Attack

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Asthma is a chronic disease that affects the airways, the tubes that carry air in and out of the lungs. Asthma is a very serious and common disease, one that affects millions of people around the world. And the number of sufferers climbs continually.

Asthma cannot be cured, but most people with the disease are able to relieve their symptoms through various forms of asthma treatments. It can be controlled to a point where they are able to live quite normally and not suffer from constant asthma attacks.

Asthma Attack Treatment

Your best approach is to prevent an asthma attack from occurring in the first place. Learn which conditions set off an attack, and do your best to avoid them. Nevertheless, there are times when an asthma attack can’t be stopped. So knowing how to treat an asthma attack is essential.

Keep in mind that when it comes to asthma, not all attacks are the same. Your symptoms might be worse during some episodes than others. And in a severe asthma attack the airways can close up so much that not enough oxygen gets to the vital organs in the body. This qualifies as a medical emergency. A severe asthma attack can even result in death. If you’re one of the millions of people who suffer from asthma, it’s important that you’re aware of the seriousness of this condition.

Pharmaceuticals

Usually, medication is used to control an asthma attack. It enables those who suffer from asthma to manage their condition and stave off an attack that could become more serious. Asthma remedies are taken either orally or inhaled as a vapor using a metered dose inhaler.

Two kinds of medication are available that can be used to treat the condition. Bronchodilators help by reducing spasms. Anti-inflammatory medications reduce airway inflammation. If your condition is severe, your physician might recommend that you use them both in combination.

There are a number of highly effective medications that your doctor can prescribe, such as:

*Accolade and Singulair, which are leukotriene inhibitors
*long-acting bronchodilators such as Famoterol and Serevent, and
*Theophylline or Aminophylline.

Your doctor will know which one is best for you, and might even have some suggestions for some natural asthma remedies.

Back Massager Can Help To Relieve Stress

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Few things in our world are able to remove stress and get our energy back as a good massager is able to. Gyms and spas are offering good massages, but they are usually expensive for most of us. But it is much better to invest in a hand held massager that will cost you exactly the same. This is the best way to enjoy in hours of quality massage when you want to. A handheld back massager may not be quite as thorough as a professional masseuse, but it will help you work knots out of your back and legs and eliminate some stress from your day.

A handheld back massager is easy to use and can be found at nearly any store near your house. Muscle relaxation and knots removal will be easy, you only need few batteries to power up those hard rubber nodules and make some vibrations. You will find some models ofering heat so that a deep penetration to your tissue is possible.

In case there is some pain or even a knot in your back, use a massager against it and after 10 minutes the vibration will remove it all. Any muscle that you can reach can be treated with personal massager, but if you can’t reach it, get someone to do it for you. Make any day a stress relieving day for yourself.

Another option is to get a massage chair so you can traet your legs and your back. A full body massage chair typically has a group of rollers installed into the back of the chair that will roll along your spine as well as hard rubber nodes to pressurize certain areas of your back. It is possible to find models that will relieve stress from your legs, because they have foot massage machine.

You will find different programs and settings on massage chairs so you can have several different massage types. Different kinds of massages can work to eliminate stress, refresh you in the morning, or relax you at bedtime. With a massage chair of your own, you are able to design the massaging programs and get the best benefits.

MBT footwear used by medical professionals to relieve foot pain

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

A comfortable, “pro body shoe” has hit the market. Actually, MBT brand footwear prefers to call them the “Anti-shoe.” Why the Anti-Shoe? Because the human body was not originally designed to wear sneakers. Shoes have flattened the terrain and unknowingly cause the human race to struggle with back, knee and hip problems due to ineffective and poorly designed shoes.

The human foot was designed to walk on unstable ground. These were shoes inspired by the Masai Tribe of Africa. This tribe emulates a regal posture and limited back and joint pain, all attributed to consistently walking on uneven surfaces. Engineers at MBT shoes took this basic concept and turned it into Masai Barefoot Technology, now called MBT Shoes. These shoes then become the Anti-Shoe based on the premise that they are designed to recreate the feeling of walking barefoot on uneven ground.

All the pressure points a person hits, while walking barefoot, are simulated in the unique round sole MBT Shoe design. These shoes designed with a negative heel, actually work more muscle groups to a greater degree over better joint and back relief by building the surrounding muscles. In fact, with sneakers from MBT, the buttock region is worked 9% more than regular shoes. The rear thigh muscle activity increases by 19%. The lower limbs receive 18% more activity all while reducing the stress on the knee joints by 19%. The result of casually working these muscles increases abdominal strength and in turn better posture.

MBT shoes also offer benefits for those whose job requires a significant percentage of time on their feet. The shoes work muscle groups while relieving joint pain and back stress. MBT shoes offers a variety of styles all featuring the unique MBT technology. Shoes range from sport shoes, casual wear, professional wear and even a select styles of boots. According to the MBT website (http://www.swissmasaius.com), these shoes are best for walking, fitness walking and light jogging.

Many medical professionals use MBT shoes to accelerate recovery and relieve various types of foot, leg, and back pain ailments. For athletes, MBT shoes are used for conditioning training, as well as prevention of injuries and recovery. Although the look of MBT Shoes are quite uncoventional based on their regular shoe counterpart, the benefits these shoes offer far outweigh the concern of being, “unconventional.” Customers report having purchased a pair of MBT Shoes and “never looking back.” Fashion does not have to hurt. Pain Types And Possible Treatments

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

What are the available options when pain strikes.

This can very much depend on the severity of the pain, and the location the pain occurs. If the pain is only a mild headache, toothache or a pain where the cause is known, such as a fall or cut, then an over the counter pain killer will usually be enough. For toothache pain medication that contains Ibuprofen is probably the best choice, toothache is often accompanied by inflammation in the problem area, Ibuprofen is an anti inflammatory medication and therefore helps to decrease the inflammation.  If the pain persists you should seek medical advice, because the pain could be the result of a more chronic underlying medical problem. Pain is how your body tells you that something is amiss, don’t ignore this message if pain persists.

Pain can be separated into two types, acute and chronic pain. Acute pain is usually a pain that lasts for only a short period that goes away without further treatment, it has no serious underlying problems associated with it and normally requires nothing more than over the counter analgesics. Chronic pain is more serious, chronic pain usually is persistant and is likely to be associated with a more serious underlying disease or injury. It can often begin from something as simple as a sprain or infection that eventually becomes more serious, or it can be caused by a developing disease. Chronic pain can persist for many months, possibly even years. As well as a requirement to treat the main problem, pain killers stronger than normal pain killers is normally required.  Among the most common medications include tramadol, ultram and ultracet, tramadol being the most popular. These pain medications are not scheduled as controlled substances, it is therefore possible to buy Tramadol online at Tramadol sale prices. In a lot of cases pain relief medication is prescribed with other treatments to treat the underlying problem.

Probably the most common type of pain we experience is headaches. Headaches may disappear without requiring any other treatment, simple over the counter pain medication will usually suffice to ease the pain. Migraine is a more severe form of headache and can be caused by various underlying conditions. A migraine may be accompanied by other conditions, such as mood changes, sensitivity to light, one sided headache and nausea. A migraine may only last for a few hours, but might continue for several days. Anyone with a migraine should seek medical attention.

For pain that is associated with muscles and joints, physiotherapy is often used, and in many cases can result in complete cure of the problem. Electrical stimulation is a sometimes used, often as a last resort. Electrical stimulation interrupts pain signals inside the spinal cord. Acupuncture may be used to help reduce pain, fine needles are entered at key points on the skin, the theory being that these disrupt the flow of spasms through the body. Fine needles may be placed in areas far removed from the origin of the pain.

The main thing to observe, is that if a pain becomes serious or unbearable, especially if it is persistant, seek medical attention without delay, it could be due to a more serious underlying problem.

Can Body Cleasning Helps Cure Candida?

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

It has been found that the Candida parasite can affect various parts of a person’s body from the intestine, to the colon, to the liver, the mouth, the genitalia, the hands as well as the skin.  But one question that may be raised by some people is can cleansing to cure Candida be effective?Below we hope to give some good answers to the question.

Certainly an intestinal cleanse is very valuable especially if you are suffering from candida.  As the main objective of this method of cleansing is that it removes the debris, putrefied food and feces as well as the solidified mucus from a person’s intestine.

Another way of cleansing in order to cure Candida is by taking some sort of anti-fungal treatment. Some of the easily available natural remedies include Grapefruit Seed Extract, Oregano Oil, Caprylic Acid or Colloidal Silver.  It is important that you take one of the above consistently for 1 or 2 months in order to feel the full effects of the cleansing.

However do note that you need to take the grapefruit seed extract between your meals so as not to irriates your stomach or you can use the capsule version.  You should be taking 10 drops diluted 50/50 with either vegetable or fruit juice for the first 3 days.  Then for the next 4 to 10 days you should increase the drops to 15 and it should be used twice daily. Now from days 11 to 28 you keep close to the 15 drops dosage but now 3 times daily. Some have found that there were good improvements after going through the lower dosage and did not see the need to move on to higher dose. The grapefruit seed extract dosage can gradually be reduced once they notice some improvement to their condition.  However, if at any time the symptoms should reappear then you will need to return to the much higher dosage.A 4 week course of such treatment is usually enough to cure Candida. Wheelchair Exercises

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Wheelchair exercises have many advantages for wheelchair users who participate in them regularly. Many types of wheelchair exercises improve the wheelchair users upper body strength and endurance. The wheelchair user may also experience other benefits of wheelchair exercises.

Depression, insomnia, stress, and anxiety are often improved by the use of wheelchair exercises. The person may also experience a boost in their self image.

There are many types of wheelchair exercises that can be done alone or with a group. Competitive sports, aerobics, and weightlifting are a few examples of types of wheelchair exercises.

If the wheelchair user has not exercise regularly, it is better to start slowly and build strength and endurance. Daily exercise for at least 4 to 5 times a week is generally recommended. The typical length of time for exercise is 30 to 45 minutes.

All exercising should begin with stretching. Soreness and injury can often be prevented if the person takes time to stretch properly. For beginners, deep breathing exercises and stretching can be a good start to an exercise program.

To build upper body strength, the wheelchair user may want to start with light weights or resistance training equipment. As upper body strength increases, the wheelchair user may increase the weight that they use.

While lifting weights increases upper body strength, aerobic activity is beneficial for building endurance. For wheelchair users who want to exercise alone, there are aerobic videos and audiotapes designed for wheelchair users or people who must exercise while seated.

The wheelchair users should notify their doctors of their intent to start an exercise program and discuss any risks or limitations. The doctor or local hospital may be able to help the wheelchair user find an exercise group. Some wheelchair users start their own wheelchair sports if no groups are available locally.

Shingles: What are They?

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Both chickenpox and Shingles are caused by the same virus; the VZV virus or varicella zoster virus. These diseases are characterized by the onset of what first looks like pimples surrounded by a red rash. These pimples then explode into seeping, fluid filled painful blisters. Shingles has been described as having an angrier version of the chickenpox.

Generally, the disease runs its course within two weeks. During that time the blisters become crust covered and will most likely leave a scar. When the crust layer has formed on the blister, they are no longer contagious. Anyone who has never contracted chickenpox and is exposed to an active shingles infection is at a high risk for contracting chickenpox.

Amazingly, the VZV virus can remain dormant under the skin for years after having a chickenpox episode. Prescribed medications and other conditions can reactivate the virus and bring on the outbreak of shingles. This disease is highly painful and requires medical help to both treat and manage its symptoms. There are a million cases of shingles in the United States every year.

Reports indicate that African Americans have a low incidence of shingles infection than Caucasians. The exact reason for this is not known.

The very first symptom of shingles is extreme pain in an area where the virus has remained dormant and a rash has not yet surfaced on the skin. Other symptoms to watch for are those similar to the flu. Symptoms such as headache, chills and fever are the most common.

The measurement of pain for shingles can be mild to severe. This pain is then followed by a rash that is typically slower to progress than chickenpox. The disease will generally appear on the abdomen or chest and generally only on one side. The rash will also follow a dermatomal pattern or pattern along the affected nerve.

There is a common complication of shingles or herpes zoster called PHN or postherpetic neuralgia, which is extremely painful and can last for many years. In addition, bacterial infections are common among those afflicted with shingles. That is why it is imperative that the blisters be kept clean.

Our immune system falters as we age, making our body conducive to the development of a zoster infection. A weakened immune system caused by HIV/AIDS, cancer, or organ transplantation can trigger a bout of zoster. Once you have had chickenpox, you can get shingles later in life. Although shingles is thought of as a disease of the elderly, anyone who has had chickenpox can get shingles including children.

Shingles is diagnosed by laboratory blood tests, as well as making note of its characteristics, such as appearing on only one side of the body.

The treatments for shingles include antidepression medications, steroids, antiviral medication, antiepileptic medications, analgesics as well as creams and lotions to soothe skin and the painful blisters.

What You Should Know Before You Buy Hoodia

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

For one, it works to control your appetite because of a component contained in this South African cactus. p57 behaves like glucose in your body which tricks your brain into thinking you have already eaten. Hunger is signaled by the brain when blood glucose levels drop, so by mimicking glucose, p57 controls your appetite.

Because of this ability, people who are diabetic or hypoglycemic and relying on steady glucose levels to manage their disease should not use hoodia. However, it may be just the ticket for the person who has been eating too many overly processed, refined carbohydrates that contain high amounts of sugar. Your body may be in such a state that it becomes hungry before your glucose levels drop to a significantly low level.

In addition to understanding how hoodia works, you need to check on a few things before you buy hoodia.

The company needs to be CITES certified and authorized to trade legally with South Africa. Because of its popularity, hoodia was being traded illegally, so the South African government placed restrictions on who was able to buy hoodia in an attempt to control its sale. Both the website and product will have a C.I.T.E.S. seal somewhere on the page, label or packaging.

Secondly, make sure when you buy hoodia that the product uses 100% pure hoodia. Not only will the C.I.T.E.S. certification ensure this, but an independent laboratory analysis is necessary to prove the merit of the product. Even if the product was purchased legally, some companies may use small amounts in their products to lower the cost. If this is the case, the hoodia supplement will be weak and ineffective.

You will also want to take note of any other ingredients in the supplement. Often times, hoodia supplements will contain other weight loss aids. You need to research these components as well to ensure they do not have any harmful effects. For instance, ephedra was a popular stimulant used to control appetite and stimulate weight loss. Though it has been banned in the United States, it is still sold on the internet. It was banned after the use of ephedra diet pills was implicated in the deaths of young women.

Caffeine is also another popular additive to hoodia supplements, and though some people may tolerate it well, others who are sensitive to caffeinated beverages should avoid these types of supplements.

Looking fantastic is a great thing. Just be sure you do your homework so you are not doing more harm than good!

Are you Kicked-out of Bed due to Loud Snoring? Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome may be the Cause.

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

“I’m dizzy and snoring so much I’m tired all day. In fact, I’ve got fibromyalgia, my friend mentioned this over lunch the other day.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic illness that may causes joint stiffness and pain; as well as, pain throughout the body especially when pressure is applied Other symptoms include trouble sleeping and swallowing. I was a little surprised to hear that her doctor had diagnosed Fibromyalgia because many in the medical community do not accept it as a disease.

Well, I didn’t actually see my doctor. I ‘Googled’ my symptoms and made the diagnosis of Fibromyalgia. she said. I told her this is not a reliable method to find out what the true problem might be.

Of course, this led to a conversation about how I don’t like doctors — at least that’s the impression she had. I actually have great respect for doctors, I said, they do a lot of good and save lives.

What I cannot abide are doctors that do not diagnose an illness but prescribe some remedy anyway, I said.

Doctors play a vital role, one must not ignore them outright and diagnose themselves. Much can be learned from a doctor’s examination of the body and blood work, I said. And, if a doctor has examined you, prescribed a medication, and that doesn’t work ” it’s important to share this information with the doctor as well.

Following our lunch, my friend did visit her doctor, who completed a thorough examination and advised she complete a sleep study. The result of all this evaluation was the naming of Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome, or UARS as the true cause of the troubles.

Breath restriction and snoring are symptoms of UARS as they are of sleep apnea. With UARS, the air track us usually already limited in size. During sleep relaxation of muscles may cause further restriction.

The airway is not shut-off with UARS as it is with sleep apnea. The primary cause of UARS is low blood pressure, which often occurs before or during menopause.

Blood pressure that is low can afflict health because without sufficient pressure blood may not be forced to vital organs. Damage to the organs could be the result.

My High Blood Pressure program and Stop Snoring program are great for UARS sufferers. The High Blood Pressure program helps sufferers of low blood pressure, as well, because it’s designed to assist with the regulation of blood pressure. Through the use of these natural health programs my friend was completely able to stop using her CPAP machine. I believe you can find relief from sleeplessness and snoring as well.

The Best Tips for Fast Fat Loss

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

The biggest problem with fast weight loss is that if you lose it fast, it will come back fast. Dieting slows metabolism, among other things. Therefore, to lose weight and keep it off forever, it is important that you keep some things in mind. First of all, realize that permanent weight loss requires a permanent shift in your attitudes, habits, and lifestyle. The best place to start with some small changes. The first change? Reduce your fat intake. If you just consume 500 fewer calories everyday you will reduce your body weight by 1 pounds in 1-week. One pound of fat is 3,500 calories (7 days X 500 calories per day = 3,500 calories = 1 pound of fat).

1. Just look at the difference in fat if you made an omelet using whole eggs (with the yolk) instead of egg whites. Egg yolks are nearly 100% pure fat while egg white is essentially zero fat. Make this simple change and you will reduce your calorie intake significantly.

2. If you’re over fat, you became that way because of your habits, tiny daily actions. It was your lifestyle that caused it to happen. The obvious solution then is to change your lifestyle. This requires a life change. Part of that life change is the foods you currently choose to eat.

3. It is not that hard to learn to enjoy new types of food. Just realize that it’s part of the process of body transformation. It’s a necessary process. Also realize this, if you do make the change, your transformation will become inevitable. If you don’t make the change – nothing changes. Easy choice, right?

3. To get rid of excess body fat – permanently – you’ll have to change how you think about food. If you think that you need to eat certain foods, the foods that got you to be overweight, for example, that is going to be a problem. Make the commitment to changing those small habits that overtime will add up to a big change in your life. Here is a simple one: stop using butter to flavor your bread. All butters. Just stop cold turkey. This will save you 100 calories every time you say no.

4. Now let’s take a look at cheese and nuts. These are very popular and recommended by some health advocates as health food. Don’t fall for the bait. If you’re starving to death – cheese is a good choice. It will keep you from starving to death. On the other hand, if you want to rid your body of excess body fat – cheese is a poor choice. It is easily stored as fat and has very high calorie content.

5. Most cheeses get more than 70% of their total calories from fat and they are far from “health” foods. They can be eaten in moderation as part of a healthy diet; but the very high saturated fat content makes cheese a poor choice for people concerned about their waistline.

6. Portion size should also be a consideration. The amount of fat you eat every day is cumulative. So, if you eat small portions of foods containing fat all day, although the fat count could be low, the total fat consumed adds to your daily total calorie consumption total.
